Inside the building

The brilliant Academy design offers students an environment where they feel safe, secure and valued. The welcoming open reception area sets the tone of the Academy, and encourage students and staff to feel excited about being there.

The variety of room sizes allows learning for students on a one-to-one basis, in small seminar groups, in practical class groups, and in general teaching classes of no more than 30 students.

Students are based in learning villages, and will develop a sense of belonging and security by having a base, as well as a locker for personal belongings and the support of a guidance team around them. They will move from this area for practical subjects and P.E.

The building has been designed to cater for students with difficulties and disabilities – allowing access for all.

Community Use

As well as being a fabulous school, the Academy can also be available for community use.

People living nearby will be able to use all kinds of facilities within the Academy during school term-time and outside school hours.

The Academy is cleverly designed to allow community access without compromising the security of students and the school facilities.

We want to build a close relationship with students and their families, and with the local community and employers.

By opening students’ horizons through links with businesses and the community aspirations will be raised.

The Enterprise Hub

The new Academy has an ‘enterprise’ specialism, where students learn the skills for becoming entrepreneurs.

The Enterprise Hub has lots of different facilities including meeting spaces and open plan ICT work areas. Food and drink is available, and there is a fantastic terrace area overlooking the city.

Of course, in addition to being used by students, the Enterprise Hub can also be used by business people and members of the local community for special events and meetings.
