Why choose Studio 6?How big is Studio 6?
Studio 6 is growing towards a maximum of 36 places. For the year starting September 2011 we will have up to 250 places available.
How do I get into Studio 6?
We will consider applications from students already at the Academy and from other secondary schools.
To apply you need to complete the application form on the back page as soon as possible. You will then be invited to an interview to discuss your application. We will want to chat with you about your future career ambitions and your subject choices.
If your application is successful you will be offered a conditional place depending on your GCSE grades. When GCSE grades are known in August, places will be confirmed. Providing your grades are acceptable you will then start Studio 6 in September 2011.
Will being in Studio 6 seem like school?
No, there is a completely different atmosphere as you will be based in an adult learning environment where you take a lot of responsibility for your own progress.
Will there be parent evenings and communications with parents?
Yes, we believe this is very important. Parent evenings will be held every term for Studio 6 students. Progress information will also be sent out to parents six times a year and there will also be regular newsletters giving information about what's happening in Studio 6. We are always happy to meet with parents to discuss any concerns. We consider the involvement of parents to be a key factor in the success of every student.
What will my hours be?
You will need to be in the Academy within normal school hours for the first term. Then, if you are achieving your targets and working hard you will be able to leave school during study periods.
You will receive a personal timetable giving your lecture times and you will also have time for personal study and relaxation.
Will I need to wear school uniform?
No, but you will need to dress in a smart business-like way including wearing a black suit jacket.
What courses do you offer?
We offer a wide range of courses including level 1, level 2 and level 3.
What GCSE grades do I need to take A-levels?
You will need a minimum of five GCSEs at grades C or above.
What does AS and A2 mean when talking about A-levels?
In the first year you will study at AS level, and the next year at A2 level. The combined scores will give you your overall A-level result.
Where will A-level subjects be taught?
You will be based in Studio 6, but will move around to specialist learning villages. Some subjects will be taught by staff from the neighbouring St Paul's Catholic School, who will be sharing their expertise in certain subject areas.
Do you offer more focused work-related courses without exams?
