It's no longer enough to simply do well in academic subjects in order to secure a place at university or a good job. University admission tutors and workplace recruitment officers now increasingly look for more.
They want to see rounded individuals who have attempted to explore their potential. They want to see sixth formers gathering experience in different areas in order to develop a broad range of skills and attributes.
Universities are also interested in whether a student has the ability to cope with a broad range of activities alongside their academic work, revealing their organisational skills and personal qualities.
It is precisely for these reasons that we offer the Futures Programme at the Academy. This is a unique course provided exclusively by the Milton Keynes Academy. The course is designed to give students the knowledge, skills and confidence to be successful not only at the Academy but also in gaining their important next step to higher education or employment.
We recognise that, in an increasingly competitive world it is necessary to go the extra mile to ensure that our learners have that something extra. Our innovative and unique Futures Programme places the learner at the heart of a range of enrichment activities that truly makes them stand out. Learners will all have opportunities to explore career pathways and develop greater confidence, employability and interpersonal skills working in partnership with a wide range of local employers, universities and community programmes.
The course is based on six modules:
- Introduction to Studio 6
- Getting Ready for Work
- Career Exploration
- Reality Check
- Work Experience, Internships and Enterprise
Successful completion will lead to 70 UCAS points or the equivalent of an A grade at AS.
The course is accredited by ASDAN and will provide students with a portfolio of evidence acknowledging their newly acquired knowledge and skills.
