Eighteen year 9 and 10 students successfully passed their Bronze Award expedition last summer. They were away from camp walking the route that they had planned and completing their chose activity (documenting the expedition) for around 6 hours on both days (Saturday and Sunday). This involved a minimum of 3hrs walking on each day.
The practice expedition was at Caldecotte and the assessed expedition was at Cosgrove. They are currently working on the other sections of the award, aiming to finish by December.
Bronze Award in Year 9 & 10
The Bronze DofE programme has 4 sections, Volunteering, Physical, Skills and Expedition. You must do a minimum of 3 months activity for each of the Volunteering, Physical and Skills sections, and plan, train for and do a 2 day (1 night) Expedition.
You also have to spend an extra three months on one of the Volunteering, Physical or Skills sections. It’s your choice which one and, though you can change your mind later, you should decide which section you want to do for longer at the beginning.
At MKA we help you decide on the Volunteering, Physical, Skills sections first.
You are then enrolled onto eDofE and start an online record of your chosen activities.
Expedition preparation and practice takes place every Monday after school. We use a mixture of after school, Saturday and weekend sessions in the spring term.
We aim to keep this as low as possible . We currently charge £50 for the bronze award (can be paid in stages) , this includes both expeditions, but not kit hire or purchase.
