Studio 6 students help to shape future of Sixth Form

A group of 26 Studio 6 students spent a day off site recently working with staff to help develop sixth form.

Two volunteers from each of the tutor groups across Years 12 and 13 had the aim of creating shared values and a mission statement for Studio 6.  All Studio 6 students had been given the opportunity to pass on ideas to their representatives during the previous two weeks.

Speaking at the event, student Roselyn Mutasa said there had been some interesting debates: "It is all about creating values for Studio 6 so we are sharing different ideas and putting them together to get overall values."  

Head of Studio 6 Sarah Forster said that the project was valuable in giving students a voice in shaping the way things happen in the future.

She added: "There were some very interesting and lengthy debates and lots of superb team work.  In particular students debated the differences between respect and professional attitude and which they valued more in terms of Studio 6 and Studio 6 students. Some felt respect was an automatic part of a professional attitude and others felt it was vice versa.  Staff and students came to an agreement to have them both as they were the values we clearly felt very passionate about. "

The agreed values are:

• } Creative Opportunities - Fun and diverse teaching methods. Fun roles that will make you stand out (e.g. Ambassadors)
• } Commitment - Carry through any choices you make to the best of your ability.
• } Respect - Considerate, Accepting, Polite, Mature, Understanding, Ability to compromise.
• } Preparing for Life - Gain life skills for the future.
• } Professional Attitude - Polite, ability to compromise, understand others' points of view and put differences aside, respectful towards others.

The group also shortlisted five possible mission statements, but due to time restrictions were unable to reach a decision about which one would best suit Studio 6.  This will be followed up with further discussions after the half term break.
