Students tell MK Museum how to attract young visitors

Students recommended a series of measures that should be introduced to entice young people into the museum. These included:

• Modernisation of the museum with new technology and media facilities
• Free entry and goody bags
• More active and fun exhibits - so visitors can have a go rather than just look
• More interesting stories about the displays
• Different activities such as pottery making
• Set up a youth forum to help involve young people in the museum's future
• More events aimed at young people such as a circus or music festival for young people

Students also believe the museum should be heavily promoted on the internet, particularly Facebook, and it should advertise more to increase awareness. 

Students presented their findings to Bill Griffiths and members of Milton Keynes Council at the Academy on July 13.

Mr Griffiths said: "I was quite apprehensive about what the students would say, but their comments have all been incredibly constructive. This has not been a game or an exercise - we will use it."

Teacher Tom Baker said: "This project has been important to the students and useful to the local community. They all worked incredibly hard and it has helped them develop presentation, research and analysis skills."
