Students tell MK Museum how to attract young visitors

Posted: 14th July 2010

Young people have been working on a project to halt the decline in teenage visitors to Milton Keynes Museum.

Museum Director Bill Griffiths commissioned Year 9 students at The Milton Keynes Academy to find out why 14-19 year-olds don't visit the Stacey Hill Farm museum.

The three-month project, which was funded by the Museums and Archives Council, involved a comprehensive survey, interviews with national museum marketing managers and museum visits.

The survey amongst young people found that more than half (54.8%) didn't realise that the city has a museum, and the vast majority of teenagers felt negatively about museums, typically describing them as old and boring.
