Students take over Bistro Live!

Bistro Live staff allowed a group of students take over their kitchen and restaurant recently.

Nineteen Year 9 students put theory into practice when they cooked and served a delicious traditional English breakfast at the Midsummer Boulevard venue.

“They did a really good job” said Bistro Live Head Chef Spencer Ollington.   “It has been an absolute pleasure having them here and seeing their excitement and enthusiasm.  By the end they had taken over and it was their service.”

The GCSE Hospitality and Catering students learned everything from how to carry three plates in one hand to kitchen terminology and the importance of shouting orders loudly in the kitchen.

Student Shannon King said: “It has been a really good experience and has made me think that I would like to work in hospitality.”

Dane Spruce added: “I learned such a lot and was surprised that at what first seemed complicated could be quite simple as there is such a structure to it all.”

Teacher of Food Technology Anne Caines accompanied the students and said that everyone had worked hard and had fun too:  “It gave them hands-on experience in a real working environment and they really gained a lot from it.  We are extremely grateful to Bistro Live for all their help in making this possible.”
