PRIME MINISTER PRAISES WORK OF ACADEMY STUDENTS

A group of Studio 6 students received praise from Prime Minister David Cameron this week.

The Prime Minister visited the Buszy to see how eight students from The Milton Keynes Academy have revamped part of the old bus station in Central Milton Keynes.

“The meeting was a complete surprise to us all” said Academy Deputy Director of Business and Enterprise Miss Gockelen.  “We had been asked to come along to the Buszy to meet someone from the Government but had no idea that it would be the Prime Minister.  The students were all really excited to meet him and a little overawed.”

The Studio 6 students told Mr Cameron about The MAD Lounge project, which involved transforming a near-derelict space into a bright social area for young people.

Miss Gockelen added: “Having an audience with the Prime Minister was an absolutely fantastic experience for the students.  He listened to their views, praised their hard work and shook everyone’s hand.”

While at The Buszy The Prime Minister also spoke to local charities and organisations about his ideas for ‘The Big Society’.

Students who met Mr Cameron were Sharon Appiah, Jumer Ahmed, Luke Chapman, Kofi Bonoah, Thusitha Fernando, Lewis Howarth, Hassan Rahimi, Tyler Trower and Richard Yeboah.

Groundwork Thames Valley teamed up with the DHL UK Foundation and Make a Difference (MAD) to develop the programme called Young Green Entrepreneurs.  The aim of the programme is to support young people aged 14-21 develop a project that makes a real difference to young people in Milton Keynes.
