FEATURED STORY

Opening of Technical Innovation Centre

Posted: 1st December 2011

Young potential engineers from the Academy got the chance to discover the New Technical and Innovation Centre at MK College as part of their opening events in early November.  Twenty Design and Technology students from Years 9 and 10 had the opportunity to sample at first hand the College’s new facilities.

As well as having a tour, students were invited to take part in a Balloon Race.  After a short briefing, students had to choose the balloon powered vehicle they believed would be the speediest.  Evan Ritchie and Jake Bains from Year 9 were not only the fastest on the day but the fastest out of all the local schools who had participated!  As recognition of their achievement, they will be getting their own balloon powered vehicle!

All the students had the chance to experience driving beyond the speed of sound in the Bloodhound simulator.  The Bloodhound Project has designed a supersonic car that they believe will be able to reach 1000mph!  Students were lucky enough to see the prototype and it really fired their imaginations.  We will be wishing them all luck when the attempt takes place in April 2012 in South Africa.
