Get Reading and Writing with the 2Steves

Year 7s were treated to an audience of ‘The Two Steves' as Steve Barlow and Steve Skidmore visited the Milton Keynes Academy this week.

They call themselves a ‘comedy double-act' as they recounted funny stories of their visits and talked about how these had often given them ideas for their own stories - giving the characters different names, of course! Check out their website http://www.the2steves.net/

They talked about today's young people being on the edge of a reading revolution that hasn't happened for 600 years - since the first printing press. Advances in technology have now meant that more and more words are on screen, rather than on paper. Many of the 2steves books can now be downloaded and read as electronic books - some are free! We are going to get some ipods for use in the Library. How cool is that! MKA joins the reading revolution - watch this space!

Here's what the students said ‘really funny', ‘when are they coming back again?'  'Something funny happened to me and after seeing the 2steves I am going to write it down'

The 2Steves also talked about the 2010 Usborne Young Writers Award. Five authors (including the 2Steves) have started stories and want your help finishing them.The competition is open to children resident in the UK and who are aged 14 or under on the closing date of the competition (Wednesday 20th October 2010).
