Delighted catering staff at The Milton Keynes Academy are celebrating achieving a top five star rating.
The team, which cooks more than 4,000 tasty freshly-prepared meals every week, received the highest score on Milton Keynes Council's ‘Scores on the Doors' food hygiene rating scheme.
"I couldn't believe it when an environmental health inspector arrived unannounced during a really hectic week when we were in the middle of preparing hundreds of dinners," said Pauline Whitfield, Catering and Hospitality Manager.
"Amidst everything going on, the inspector checked out all our procedures and practices, and peered underneath and behind everything. We were really pleased when we heard that we had been awarded the five star ‘excellent' rating as it can't get any better than that."
Pauline and her 13-strong team are busy all day long providing breakfast and mid-morning snacks, four different lunchtime meal dishes and an after-school snack. They also cater for many meetings and conferences in the Academy's Enterprise Hub.
Students at the Leadenhall secondary school tuck into dishes such as pan fried pesto chicken with baby herb potatoes and fresh vegetables and chilli con carne.
"Most of the children really seem to love the food," Pauline added, "It's very rewarding when our efforts are so appreciated."
