Dodgeball trophies won by newcomers

Victorious girls at The Milton Keynes Academy won two dodgeball trophies recently - despite being complete newcomers to the game!

The students beat fierce competition from 10 other schools to win the MK School Sports Partnership Under 14s and Under 16s dodgeball trophies recently.

PE teacher Emma Porsz said: "I'm really proud of the girls as they have only played dodgeball occasionally since the Academy opened in September, and didn't play previously. They are a very talented group of girls who really rose to the challenge."

Dodgeball has become increasingly popular in schools, particularly since the sport featured in the American comedy hit movie Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story.

The game involves players throwing balls at members of the opposing team and avoiding being hit themselves.

Year 11 student Stephanie Allwood, who was in the under 16s winning team said: "We really enjoy the sport, but haven't been playing long so didn't think we had a chance when the teachers entered us in the competition. It was good to win - we didn't know our own strength."
