Brainwave competition for students

Students are being asked for bright ideas that could make the Academy an even better school.

What’s more, there’s funding available to put the best schemes in place and turn their ideas into reality.

The Academy’s Enterprise Fund scheme was launched this week and gives all Year 7 and 8 students the chance to compete for project cash.

Director of Personal Development Mrs Gockelen said: “Students are being encouraged to create their own social enterprise projects to benefit the school community. They will have to come up with a great idea and produce a business plan. This will help their employability skills and give a direct input into the Academy.”

Students will work in small teams to develop their ideas and then each tutor group will agree on the best scheme to present to judges on Friday.

Miss Gockelen added: “The winning schemes will be those considered by the judging panel to give the most benefit to the Academy.” 

Studio 6 student Kofi Boanoh told those taking part how he had succeeded in winning funds from a similar scheme and had set up a Friday youth club. He said that the experience had helped him go on to set up his own business and be voted Managing Director of his Young Enterprise team.
