Year 8 students have spent the last two weeks of term working on an employability project linked to Nampak, a Newport Pagnell based business who are leaders in the manufacture of High Density Polyethylene (HDPE) bottles for the food and drink industry.

Students, working in teams, were provided with a wealth of data from the company and had to produce a presentation comparing profitability of a number of manufacturing sites. They had to analyse a raft of data covering such issues as productivity, wastage rates and operational efficiency, and decide which one in their own view was the most efficient. One group was chosen to represent each class in a final presentation to judges.

This year saw a highly competitive field, with a series of detailed and well practised presentations. The judges, led by Ms Webster, Vice Principal, selected the final winning team based on quality of Teamwork, Standard of presentation and use of Mathematics.

Ms Webster commented “It was fantastic to see the energy with which the teams approached the task. This project built on the great links the Academy has with local employers, and it was a delight to see how students applied the skills they have learned throughout the year to a real world situation”. Well done to all finalists and congratulations to Team Junior Nampak on their winning presentation.
