Welcome to this special section of the website written for employers and members of the local community.
The Milton Keynes Academy’s mission is to provide our students with the skills to be ready and able to take their next step to success, whether that is to higher or further education, employment with training or an apprenticeship.
The Academy has excellent relationships with major local employers who contribute to our many engagement activities and mentoring programmes. We use the expertise of professionals to hone the employability skills of our young people, to give them the edge in the fast-changing and often challenging world of work.
Our strategy is to bring excitement and relevance to the curriculum by providing solutions to ‘real’ problems. For example, Audi facilitate a literacy project for Year 9 which involves students designing and pitching ideas for merchandise, and Network Rail ask Design and Technology students for concepts to increase their ‘green’ credentials. Through many mentor programmes we are able to develop students’ confidence and resilience while broadening their horizons and raising their aspirations. Through employability events, students are introduced to different pathways and given the skills to access them.
If you feel that either you or your company could contribute either to a one-off event, or if you are interested in mentoring, please contact dgockelen@miltonkeynesacademy.co.uk
The Academy sees itself at the heart of a vital and diverse community and endeavours to provide students with the tools and opportunities to become active citizens. We have deepening relationships with our local community councils, faith and community groups.
Many of our students get involved with community projects as part of their studies, and we are always interested to hear good ideas about how they can help local people. For instance, are there groups who would like a visit from our performing arts students? Could students help tidy up an area on one of the nearby estates or help coach younger children with sports? If you have any suggestions for this type of project work please contact dgockelen@miltonkeynesacademy.co.uk
The Academy has excellent facilities available to local people outside school hours. This includes the Enterprise Hub, a large airy space ideal for meetings, celebrations and events. For details about using the Academy as a venue for your event please email dgockelen@miltonkeynesacademy.co.uk
