The aims of the course are for students to gain knowledge and understanding about the human body and a variety of areas involved in and around the world of sport. They will also develop their abilities and knowledge in coaching.
Students will develop analysis and evaluation skills enabling them to work independently as well as work within a team to achieve a common goal. The students will be expected to cover a number of assignments working to strict deadlines.
Subject Skills

Course Content
The BTEC National Certificate provides a specialist work related programme of study that covers the key knowledge and practical skills required in the workplace.
It offers flexibility and a choice of emphasis through the specialist units. It is broadly equivalent to two A-levels or the full award AVCE.
The qualification offers an engaging programme for those who are clear about the area of employment that they wish to enter. These learners may wish to extend their programme through the study of a related A-level, a complementary NVQ or another qualification. These learning programmes can be developed to allow learners to study complementary qualifications without duplication of content.

To gain entry to this course you are required to have 5 GCSE grades of C or above which one must include a grade C or above in GCSE PE or a merit or above in level 2 BTEC and a C or above in English.
The course is assessed over two years. At the end of each unit there are assignments based upon the work completed in class.
This subject is taught using a variety of methods including practical sessions where required. Most of the work is classroom based which will require work from text books, computer based activities and group discussions.
Level 3 requires an increased level of independent learning due to the high expectations of the course.
PE teaching, sports coach, physiotherapist, sport psychologists, sports development officer and sports coordinator.
