The aim of the course is to research leisure and tourism in the UK to show understanding of the business and activities that make up the leisure and tourism industry in the UK.
Students will be developing their personal skills of team working, career planning, communication and problem solving whilst investigating the dynamic and interesting leisure and tourism industry.

Course content
• Working as a team - demonstrating practical team working skills.
• Investigating leisure and tourism provision – researching through visits to a huge variety of different facilities.
• Introducing skills for working in leisure and tourism – includes practical safely and customer care.
• Investigating options for work in leisure and tourism – researching jobs and completing a review of own skills and qualities.
• Communication skills in leisure and tourism - including how to use business language appropriately.
• Problem solving – exploring the typical range of problems that occur in the industries.
• UK visitor destinations – researching different destinations through visits.
• Transport for tourism – investigating different types of transport.
• Hospitality in travel tourism – visits to a variety of accommodations, restaurants and other venues to support research.
• Travel sales – sales and marketing skills developed through practical activities.
• Taking part in outdoor activities – developed through a visit to an outdoor centre.
• Investigating leisure entertainment activities - researching through visits to a huge variety of different facilities.
You need to have studied a variety of GCSE subjects including English.
There are no exams so students need to enjoy continuous coursework. The most common forms of assessment are presentations, case studies, assignments, work-based assessment, projects; performance observations, timeconstrained assessments and role-play.
This subject is taught using a variety of teaching methods. Whenever possible visits, tours and talks will be arranged so students need to expect to be out of the Academy once a week. There will be a lot of group work and discussions. Demonstrations will also be important and most lessons will include access to IT.
This course is the perfect stepping stone to the next level course.
