Course Content
This course explores why people behave in certain ways. Students will carry out research, collect data and analyse results which will involve some statistics work.
In the first unit students will learn about cognitive psychology, developmental psychology and research methods. The second unit looks at biological psychology, individual differences and social psychology.
You need at least 5 A*- C grades including GCSE English and maths.
Students’ work is assessed through 100 per cent examination, therefore you must enjoy and be comfortable doing exams if you choose this course.
This subject is taught using a variety of teaching methods. Handouts are usually provided in class containing the key information in addition to the information included in the textbook. There will be discussions and debates in class.You will complete regular essay practice in exam conditions which will be marked using the exam criteria in order to prepare you fully for the exam.
You will build on knowledge and skills gained in the A2 course.
You must achieve at least an E at AS level to progress onto the A2 course.
Psychology may influence your future choices either directly or indirectly. If you wish to become a psychologist, therapist or mental health worker, this A-level is of direct value. Students who want a career in any of the caring services, or in marketing or human resources, will find an understanding of psychology very useful.
