Unit 1: Global Challenges
In this unit you will study a range of topics such as global hazards, climate change and future global challenges.
Unit 2: Geographical Investigations
This gives you an opportunity to undertake geographical research, including fieldwork. You will investigate two topics in depth, one of extreme weather (physical geography), and one of unequal spaces (human geography).
At least 5 A*- C including English and maths.
Unit 1: Global Challenges
1.5 hour written examination.
Unit 2: Geographical investigations
1 hour written examination.You will be asked about your fieldwork skills in this examination.
A variety of methods will be used with a strong emphasis on independent and group research, especially in unit 2. Fieldwork outside the classroom is an essential part of the course.
The A2 course takes many of the AS themes and develops them with a greater application to the real world. There is also greater choice in what to study.
It will be essential that students pass the AS course in order to progress.
Geographers can go into a wide range of jobs, including: advertising, marketing, education, retailing, environmental management, sales, finance, social work, health services and law.
