Students can learn all the different aspects of product design. The course content is closely linked to the real world of product manufacture in a range of material areas. Students will:

Course Content
What makes one product a huge hit and another a financial disaster? You will learn all about the different aspects of designing and making a product from producing a brief through to its manufacture and marketing. This will include looking at everything from the product’s stability to its composition, manufacture, strength and appearance.
You need at least 5 A*- C grades.
Innovation Challenge
Students will be set a seven-hour design challenge to assess their ability to design and model a product and then reflect on the design concept.
Marks will be awarded for innovation and originality.
Product Study
This coursework unit consists of product analysis and product development, prototype modelling and testing. It will not involve the complete redesign of an existing product, but rather identify opportunities for its further development or enhancement.
Teaching Methods
This subject is taught using a variety of teaching methods. There will be a lot of practical work activities.
