Subjects and Qualifications

Students are able to choose from a good mix of subjects at GCSE, AS level and A2 level.

There are opportunities for everyone to study a vocational qualification. This could be a new Diploma or a BTEC in business, the arts, sports and leisure, or social sciences.

Enterprise skills are taught in every subject, so that lessons relate to the world of work. There is also an emphasis on practical classroom work 'learning by doing'.

We have superb facilities so that students can benefit from well-equipped specially designed areas for all subjects. There are:

• Seven science laboratories. Every student will be able to study separate science subjects.
• A food technology hall, design and technology studios.
• Eight music practice rooms, a dance studio, a sports hall, two drama halls, a film and TV recording studio and a music recording studio.
• A rugby pitch, two football pitches, an athletics track, cricket pitch, field and nets, soccer training grids, high jump, triple jump, shotput, synthetic pitch and surface, basketball court, tennis courts.
• Language laboratories. Every student can study a second language.
• Science and arts gardens and an outside performance area with tiered seating.

Your Involvement

We expect parents to encourage their child to succeed at the Academy, and will always be happy to talk about any particular issues that might be affecting your child’s learning and time at school. We will:

• Provide a report every term about your child’s progress. See calendar for dates.
• Have progress evenings for you to talk to subject teachers every term. See calendar for dates.
• Send you regular newsletters.
• Support the Parents Group and Discussion Forum, and hope that parents would like to get involved with this.
• Elect a parent governor onto the Governing Body.
